As I mentioned yesterday, I’m conducting a retreat this weekend.

One of the things we want to do is play horseshoes. A retreat isn’t a retreat without horseshoes. However, horseshoes can make a mess out of a nicely manicured yawn. The same source of information about the campfire was consulted about horseshoes.

Their response to my query if they had a horseshoe pit:

That’s a really good question! It seems that we used to have one. Hold on and I’ll ask someone (putting the phone down and going to ask ‘someone,’ I hear her ask: ‘Is it legal to play horseshoes here?’ I hear someone in the background say, ‘Horseshoes? Horseshoes? Why would someone want horseshoes?’ Someone else chimes in, ‘It seems like we used to have a place but I have no clue where it is.’)

My caretaker comes back to the phone and admits that everyone is clueless about horseshoes. Her conclusion?

If we have a place, you’re certainly welcome to use it. But if we don’t, you can use it anyways.

I think that is a ‘yes.’
